Business travel to Vietnam about to get easier
Business travel to Vietnam is about to get easier when Vietnam joins 16 other Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation members in the APEC Business Travel Card program.

Australian Trade Minister Mark Vaile said Vietnam expected to commence its business travel card operation early next year.

The APEC card is credit-card size, contains personal identity details, substitutes for a visa and is valid for up to three years for multiple short-term business visits.

Participating economies of the scheme include Australia, Brunei, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan.

Mr. Vaile said the travel card was a practical example of APEC member economies working together to simplify business travel and promote regional business activity.

"The decision by Vietnam to join the APEC Business Travel Card scheme would promote closer business ties between Australia and Vietnam and open the way for higher levels of trade and investment in the APEC region," he said.

"By streamlining business travel, we are reducing the cost of doing business and helping maximize opportunities,” Mr. Vaile added.
