Greg James, General Manager

As use of mobile phones becomes more realistic on airlines, can you imagine the tedium of having a loud person sitting next you discussing trivialities on their mobiles speaker? On the other hand, think of the competitive intelligence you could gather in business class!

The media seems to be loudly debating whether airlines will or will not allow chatting in mid air and the Association of Flight Attendants, which represents more than 40,000 flight attendants at 26 airlines, dismisses in-flight wireless gab as "irresponsible and a bad idea."

We have changed our website address to the user-friendly www.bti.com.sg. Our website is full of information designed to help you along your way. Be sure to visit us today.

What are your thoughts? Are you for it or against it? Let us know at

Yours faithfully as always,

Has all this talk about beds in airlines got you confused about which carriers to fly?

If you are travelling on an American passport you may be concerned about what changes are being proposed in the interest of 'security'. The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) is opposed to a proposed federal program that would implant electronic identification "bugs" in U.S. passports.

More of a computer chip than an actual transmitter, the device may be capable of identifying the presence of U.S. citizens in crowds, in hotel lobbies, on trains, or even on the street to those in possession of a fairly unsophisticated receiver. The signal can be detected up to 450 feet away. It may also be capable of transmitting personal data, such as your name, passport number, and photograph. Register your dissatisfaction immediately to PassportRules@State.Gov.

ACTE has also announced its Asia-Pacific Regional Conference taking place from 24-25 August in Singapore. The theme is Convergence & Emergence: Discovering New Competencies in Travel Management and it emphasises the need for its practitioners to consider how seemingly disparate developments in other disciplines can quickly become a major agenda for the business travel industry.

Among the conference's keynote speakers is Ms. Erna Witoelar, United Nation's Special Ambassador, MDG for Asia and the Pacific Region. Ms. Witoelar will present the UN's mission to ensure that globalization be a positive force and its call to corporations and its top executives to view their roles through new lenses.
