This month we launch our HTML version of the newsletter. We hope that you will find this version much easier to read and absorb and ofcourse not so heavy on space in your mailbox!

We have a very interesting issue this month, with plenty of advise from what to do with your frequent flyer points through to what teas you can enjoy on flights and which hotels to stay in; we have even listed some courses designed for the corporate travel manager that will be on in Singapore in March.

Do let us know what you think about Communique, we are keen to keep improving! Email us at communique@bti-singapore.com.

I wish you a very successful March!

Redeeming all those Points You Have Accumulated
Most busy executives who travel far and often accumulate an overwhelming number of points through frequent flyer programs, hotel loyalty programs and credit card use. Often times you don't have the time or energy to figure out all the rewards and how you can redeem them. These days, it is quite easy to do so. With most programs you can redeem your gifts online. Simply visit the programs website.

Don't lose the miles you have accumulated. Figure out real quick which miles you have that are safe. With so many airlines teetering on bankruptcy, you want to use your points before you lose them. Also, with the advent of low cost carriers, what was free is no longer so free. Limited seats, and even charges for redeeming in person or other than online are kicking in. If you want to be sure - book 331 days in advance, when the airlines load their new inventory of award seats into the computer. If you can't plan that far ahead, book late. Airlines start releasing empty seats to the mileage programs two to three weeks before the flight.

Here are some other ways to use those miles:

  • Convert miles to points through programs such as Diners Club's Club Rewards.
  • Trade miles on Web sites such as MilePoint.com for points or miles from other loyalty programs, or redeem them for savings on magazines and other purchases
  • Transfer miles to friends and family.
  • Donate miles to charity. For example, Asia Miles members can donate a minimum of 500 miles to various groups.

Bangkok Airways is to launch a new nonstop service from Samui to Hong Kong 22 April 2005. Special deals are valid until July 31st, 2005.

Bangkok Airways’ Samui-Hong Kong route will be serviced non-stop with 120-seat Boeing 717-200 aircraft, with a travel time of approximately three hours per sector. Flights will be operated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. PG298 leaves Samui at 08:40 arriving in Hong Kong at 12:40. The flight from Hong Kong PG 299 departs at 13:40 arriving in Samui at 15:40.

Dragonair
The best in premium, full-flavoured Chinese teas will be available to more Dragonair passengers from March 1. Oolong and jasmine teas from the famed Fook Ming Tong tea company are now also offered to passengers in First and Business Class on all routes. Meanwhile, passengers in all classes on flights between Hong Kong and Beijing and Shanghai can still choose these teas from the menu.

“The teas have proved extremely popular since we introduced them on selected routes in December, and now more passengers can enjoy them,” said Ronnie Choi, Director Customer Services. “Fook Ming Tong has a distinctive tea blending and selection process, and so we are delighted to be able to offer more of our passengers these high-quality teas.”

A Fook Ming Tong tea gift set, called “Dancing Butterflies”, is available for passengers on selected flights to buy as part of Dragonair’s duty free inflight service. The set comprises four individually decorated tins of “Yunnan Age Unknown Pu Er”, “Xiwu Pre-chingming Long Jin”, “Zhejiang Jasmine Mao Feng” and “Anqi Super Ti Guan Yin”
