Postpones planned launch of a 3x-weekly service to Moscow, Manchester

Cathay Pacific has postponed its planned launch of a three-times-weekly service to Moscow, onward to Manchester.

The Hong Kong-based airline announced in December 2005 that, subject to final government approval, flights would commence on 27 March 2006. However the airline is still awaiting the completion of regulatory formalities regarding Manchester, which is taking longer than originally anticipated.

Cathay Pacific stressed that it is continuing to work hard with its partners to resolve these issues and hopes to launch the service later in the year.

Cathay Pacific commenced a codeshare service from Hong Kong to Moscow, operated by Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, on 2 June 2004. The planned Cathay Pacific-operated service to Moscow and Manchester is also designed to be a codeshare service with partner Aeroflot.

Any passenger who made a confirmed booking to Manchester will be offered an alternative routing through London Heathrow. Passengers booked to Moscow will be able to travel on the airline's existing codeshare service operated by Aeroflot.

Cathay Pacific serves “Best Chinese Food In The Air” from top Hong Kong Restaurants

Cathay Pacific Airways has teamed up with Hong Kong’s top Chinese restaurants in its biggest ever promotion to serve the “Best Chinese Food in the Air” to passengers on all flights departing Hong Kong from 1 March through 31 December 2006.

About 100 special dishes will be offered inflight as the airline celebrates 60 years of serving Hong Kong – and being named “Airline of the Year 2006”.

Cathay Pacific usually collaborates with one restaurant group for this unique annual event. To mark this special year it is joined by eight partners including:

* Celestial Court Chinese Restaurant, Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers
* Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant
* Lei Garden Restaurant
* One Harbour Road, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
* Peking Garden Restaurant
* T’ang Court, Langham Hotel Hong Kong
* Yung Kee Restaurant, and
* Cathay Pacific Catering Services

Each restaurant will feature some of its signature dishes, including Deluxe Seafood Dumpling, Sauteed Wild Mushrooms and Shrimps in XO Sauce, Pan-fried Prawns with Spring Onion in Carrot Sauce and Braised Seabass with Preserved Gooseberry.

During the first three days of the promotion from 1 to 3 March, and to mark the airline’s 60th Anniversary year, First and Business Class passengers on all flights and Economy Class passengers on long-haul routes will also be treated to a traditional Chinese-style hot birthday bun. The sweet will be served throughout September, the airline’s birthday month, as well.

Cathay Pacific Director Service Delivery Quince Chong said: “In Chinese culture, turning 60 is celebrated by throwing a banquet for family and friends. With this year’s ‘Best Chinese Food in the Air’ promotion we are celebrating our 60th Anniversary by offering a superb choice from the menus of the city’s finest Chinese restaurants. As the Airline of the Year it is another way we can express our commitment to offer the very best service and dining to all our passengers.”

Cathay Pacific screening 50 movies, 100 TV shows on Studiocx

Cathay Pacific Airways’ premium passengers are now enjoying a much wider selection of inflight viewing with up to 50 movies and more than 100 TV shows available on demand.

The expanded choice – almost 50 percent extra – for First and Business Class passengers is introduced this month, and follows the launch of the new StudioCX user interface in November last year. Chinese-language subtitles have also been added to more of the most popular programmes to make them accessible to a wider range of passengers.

Cathay Pacific’s often premieres new releases before they are screened in Hong Kong theatres. Right now, the only way anyone in Hong Kong can enjoy Oscar-nominated Walk the Line and Pride & Prejudice is on StudioCX on long-haul services from Hong Kong.

The inflight entertainment upgrade includes a number of additions and enhancements, including the introduction of a new movie category, “CX Choice”, which brings together award winning, critically acclaimed movies within retrospectives or other themes.

For February, in anticipation of the 2006 Oscars in early March, CX Choice will be highlighting 10 “must see” movies from the past decade under the theme of “Almost Oscars” – films that were good enough to win a Best Picture award but didn’t quite make it. Among the cult favourites on offer are Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Fargo and The Usual Suspects.

A new TV category, “CX Hooked”, showcases some of the hottest, most talked about comedy, drama and reality TV shows. In the launch month there will be five consecutive episodes each of addictive series such as Donald Trump’s The Apprentice (an airline exclusive for CX), 24 and Lost.

The First and Business Class Entertainment Guide has also undergone a complete facelift. The aim is to create something that is less a traditional entertainment guide and more an attention-grabbing entertainment magazine. Editorial content has also been expanded, with a number of new sections, special sidebars and a variety of “fast facts” to spice up content.

Cathay Pacific Director Service Delivery Quince Chong said: “Inflight entertainment is an integral part our premium-class offering. Our latest improvements, with greatly enhanced viewing choice and some smart new features, is something that Cathay Pacific’s customers have come to expect from the airline of the year”.
